This is a picture of Milo's first ride in a shopping cart sitting up in the kid basket. You can see he really liked it and was happy - for about 90 seconds. Then the whining and whimpering started. Then the yelling. Then he lost control of his head and bonked it on the handle of the cart. Then he started really yelling. So I took him out of the cart and carried him on my hip. That worked for a while but he was bored so I gave him little things to play with (keys, cell phone, etc.). And when I picked out a tiny glass vase for a decorating project I'm working on (I'll post pictures of that someday too) he grabbed for it. It had a shape that flared out at the top and Milo thought it was a cup. He's very excited about stealing people's cups and "drinking from them" (knocking them over). So, since it seemed to be making him happy, (and I thought I could sneak in a minute or two more of shopping) I let him pretend to drink from it (keeping my hand securely around both baby and vase lest either of them break the other). And, wouldn't you know it? Not ten seconds later I hear a quiet little retching sound and I look down to see that Milo has (considerately?) vomited into the vase. It was only about a tablespoon but it was orange (carrots for lunch) with little floaties - there was no passing this off as anything but vomit. I wasn't quite sure what to do. I (stupidly) hadn't brought in a burp rag and nothing (other than my pocket) really presented itself as an acceptable receptacle. (ha! say that ten times fast! Acceptable Receptacle, acceptable receptacle...) So since I was more than ready to leave by then I just decided to check out. I explained the situation to the cashier who looked horrified (I wish I had a picture of that) and he entered in the price of the vase without scanning or touching it, rang up my other items, and told me to go - he'd take care of my cart. I smiled and thanked him and Milo and I went on our merry way. So the vase made it home with us but we left the vomit in the parking lot.
The end.

Ryan had his first cart ride two days ago at Sams. I thought he was ready for it because he had his first "highchair in a restaurant" experience a few days earlier. He was not. He leaned all the way to one side, then the other, while bucked in. He then started crying for a bottle, which completely stalled all browsing. After spending more time dealing with him than actually shopping, I was glad I had put his carseat in the cart. I plopped him back in his carseat, propped the bottle up in his mouth (ya, he won't hold it himself). Maybe we'll try again in a week or so. . .
hahahahaha!!! Oh Milo, I knew you'd have a sense of humor. Poor Emily!
Could he be any cuter? What an adorable little boy.
